Interesting t.v. watching tonight… I’m sure my Republican friends and family were cheering along with the Republican members of Congress, who could not wait to jump out of their chairs to give W. a standing o. I actually did more listening than watching because I disliked seeing Chaney smirk in the background.
I did take immense pleasure with the looks on the Democrats’ faces… Pelosi looked pained and slightly annoyed. Kerry and Mikulski looked bored. Obama looked frustrated. I don’t know how they got through the whole speech! Thank goodness that the president gave the Democrats something to stand up for… reduction of greenhouse gases.
Again in his speech, President Bush tried to perpetuate the myth that Democrats over-tax Americans. It’s a mantra that Republicans repeat over and over again. I even hear it from my own family.
So far, I’m a fan of the rebuttal by the governor of Kansas. She just said that many of us at home were probably sitting at home wondering what all the standing ovations and clapping meant. Who stood when? And, in the end, what does this mean to me?
That’s what I am wondering… how will these promises affect me? Will change finally come to Washington?

MM- So I was listening to the state of the union online via NPR, and it is totally different to hear it that way, instead of seeing it on t.v. I can only imagine what Obama looked like, with that load of “I’m sorry” crap that W was pushing out. He sounded so weak. And thanks again W for the last 4 years of torture. I just thought that you might want to try the radio next time, well that is if the speaker sucks, I guess.

I knew it had to be a totally different experience listening rather than watching, but I swear watching was the most fun. I could predict when the Republicans would stand and cheer and the Dems would remain seated.
Since W became president, I try to avoid State of the Union addresses but hey… it was on and I was working on my Naked Conversations blog entry so what the hey…
I tried to find photos of my favorite reactions from Congressional members, but nothing was up last night. Maybe photographers are nice and don’t put damning photos of bored senators online… keep your eyes out and let me know if you see any.
